Cookies have feet??

A couple of weeks ago, Rachel, Deana and I took a class at La Cuisine Paris, a wonderful little place that offers cooking classes (in English!) on all things French:  croissants, baguettes, and best of all, macarons!!  These gorgeous, colorful little cookies that I've fallen so in love with are actually quite challenging!  Good thing we had Jenny, our super-cute instructor from Ohio, to guide us through the recipe.  She met her french husband while he was in Boston on business.  She had intended to go to culinary school already, but changed her focus to French pastries after falling for him.  Jenny has worked in a number of Parisian bakeries, including La Duree - the world famous bakery, most known for their macarons.

The class had only 10 students, and we made both passion fruit/chocolate and pistachio macarons.  We really enjoyed the class and plan to spend some more time with Jenny during our time here!

PS...the "feet" on macarons are the frilly edges on the cookies that happen while they bake.  They are how you know that the cookie texture is just right.  Check them out in the pics below!  Can't say I'll be practicing these anytime soon... you know, the whole lack of an oven problem!!

Highly recommend checking out La Cuisine if you ever get the chance:  http://www.lacuisineparis.com/
